TL;DR: Oracle is rumored to be negotiating a TikTok acquisition again, but nothing is confirmed. Trump and other buyers are involved, making the deal uncertain.

The rumor mill is buzzing again.

Oracle, the enterprise software giant, might be making a play for TikTok. This isn't the first time the two names have been linked, but is there anything real behind the latest chatter? Rewind to 2020.

When the U.S. government pushed for TikTok to be sold due to national security concerns, Oracle stepped in.

The plan wasn’t for a full acquisition but rather for Oracle to become TikTok’s "trusted tech partner" in the U.S. It was a compromise, but ultimately, nothing came of it. Fast forward to 2025, and reports suggest Oracle might be in active negotiations again.

The motivation?

The same concerns about TikTok’s Chinese ownership and potential data risks. Oracle is already hosting TikTok’s U.S. user data on its cloud infrastructure, but that’s not enough for some lawmakers.

The Trump Factor

Adding fuel to the fire, Donald Trump—yes, he’s back in the mix—has been vocal about TikTok’s future.

He’s mentioned that he’s spoken to tech billionaires about taking over the app, including Oracle’s co-founder Larry Ellison and even Elon Musk.

However, Trump later clarified he hadn’t had direct talks with Ellison about a TikTok deal. It’s classic Trump: plenty of noise, but no clear indication of a concrete deal. Oracle isn’t the only one eyeing TikTok.

A U.S. entrepreneur, Reid Rasner, recently made a $47.45 billion bid to buy the app. His pitch? Move TikTok’s operations to Wyoming to drive economic growth.

It’s an ambitious move, but whether he has the financial muscle to pull it off is another question. So, is Oracle really going to buy TikTok? Right now, it’s all speculation. The app’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain, and multiple parties are interested.

If a sale happens, it’ll be under intense government scrutiny. For now, Oracle’s role in TikTok’s infrastructure is growing, but a full acquisition? That’s still up in the air.
